The authorities of Phuket Island in Thailand wants to “improve the quality” of incoming tourists, that is, to attract more solvent travelers.
Phuket Governor Sophon Suvannarat and the president of the Tanet Island Tourism Association Tantipiriakizh suggest that the Thai government establish a requirement for at least 300,000 baht (about 900,000 rubles) in the account of each tourist.
This, according to the authors of the initiative, will reduce the risks of excessive tourism on the island and contribute to reducing the number of cases of “destructive behavior” of foreigners.
The governor of Phuket noted that the Thai government is trying to attract as many guests as possible, but this leads to an increase in the number of foreign tourists of “lower quality”.
