Most Russian tourists save up for a vacation

Большинство российских туристов копят на отпуск

According to the forecast of the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand, the warm weather on the Black Sea coast will last at least until mid-October.

The duration of the velvet season this year is projected to be noticeably longer than usual, at least until mid-October. The water temperature will be above 22 degrees. And this is due to the fact that in the summer an anticyclone prevailed over the Black Sea and the sea surface warmed up a lot,” Roman Vilfand said.

 Airport News

A new terminal has been launched at Tomsk Nikolay Kamov Airport. The architectural concept of the building is inspired by the inventions of the Soviet aircraft designer, creator of Ka helicopters Nikolai Ilyich Kamov (1902-1973). The new terminal serves all domestic flights and will be able to accommodate up to 400 passengers per hour and up to one million per year.

An exhibition dedicated to the life of Nikolai Kamov has been launched at the airport. Tomichi and guests of the city can see photos and personal belongings of Kamov from the period when he studied at Tomsk Technological University (now Tomsk Polytechnic University).

 Tragedies of the Week

On August 31, a helicopter with tourists disappeared in Kamchatka. The Vityaz-Aero Mi-8 took people from the Vachkazets mountain range in the south of the peninsula and headed to the village of Nikolaevka. The distance is 25 km. However, at the appointed time, the aircraft commander did not get in touch. Three crew members and 19 passengers were on board the missing helicopter.

Another airline helicopter took off to search, but the rescue work was hampered by low visibility due to dense fog. It was only the next day that the wreckage of the missing helicopter was found. They are located at an altitude of 900 meters near the place where the pilot last contacted. 17 bodies were found at the helicopter crash site. “Judging by the nature of the destruction of the helicopter, there are no survivors on board,” the operational services told TASS.

The body of Russian tourist Natalia Somova, who disappeared near Marmaris two weeks ago, has been found in Turkey. According to the profile portal “Turdom” with reference to the Turkish media, at first a broken phone was found on a steep mountainside, which is assumed to have belonged to a woman, and then the body itself was found in the sea at the foot of the cliff. It is possible that the cause of death was an accident, but the investigation should finally answer this question.

Natalia, who came to Turkey to celebrate her 48th birthday, disappeared on August 17. Early in the morning, she went for a walk along the Carib Trail, but did not return to the hotel. All this time, the search continued, and about two hundred people participated in it.

In Japan, three people were killed and one is missing due to typhoon Shanshan, which struck the southern coast of the country.

 Passport precedent

This winter, a family with a child was not released abroad due to an error in their passports at Koltsovo airport (Yekaterinburg). The mother had a typo in her patronymic, and the child’s gender was not indicated in the machine-readable line. As a result, the passports were seized. The head of the family did not fly alone on a trip, as expected.

The tourists filed a lawsuit demanding the Ministry of Internal Affairs to return the funds for the failed tour, as the reason is an error in the passport issued by the department. After three sessions, the court sided with the tourists and decided to recover losses from the department in the amount of 465 thousand rubles, as well as compensation for moral damage – 30 thousand, expenses for a representative and payment of state duty.

Considering that there have been many cases of errors in foreign passports lately, this precedent is indicative: tourists can refund funds for a tour due to an error by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

 Smallpox of monkeys

Despite the fact that the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, has already reassured Russians that our country, with its traditional values, is not threatened by monkey pox (see “AN” No. 34), the agency nevertheless recommended strengthening measures to identify symptoms of monkey pox. At border checkpoints, special attention will be paid to any manifestations of infectious diseases, as well as to citizens who have visited epidemically disadvantaged countries over the past three weeks.

According to Rospotrebnadzor, the endemic countries for smallpox include Benin, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria, the Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone and South Sudan.

According to Gennady Onishchenko, the former chief sanitary officer of Russia, sanitary control points are already in place at Russian international airports and epidemiologists are working. According to him, all those who arrived from countries with a high risk of infection and went to a doctor are isolated with suspected smallpox of monkeys. We emphasize that there is no question of any testing or quarantine for asymptomatic passengers yet.

 Save up for a vacation

A domestic travel planning service and an IT company developing software for accommodation facilities (hotels, etc.) conducted a survey of users and found out how much money Russian tourists spend on vacation and whether they often go beyond the budget. It turned out that the main expenses were for food, excursions and entertainment (40%). More than half of the respondents went over budget last vacation. However, the expenses of 12% exceeded their own limits slightly.

Most tourists save up for a vacation (55%)

, some earn extra money (7%), and 8% have enough income without savings. A third of travelers use credit cards to pay for trips, with 11% doing so frequently. Some people need more than six months to return the money to the bank. A small part takes out travel loans (2-4%), borrows from friends (3.6%) or receives financial assistance from relatives (7%). Only half of the tourists (47%) have funds with them for unforeseen expenses. For the next vacation, 40% of respondents plan to spend from 30 to 80 thousand rubles each.

 Visa News

Thailand plans to launch an electronic entry permit system for tourists (ETA) from 2025. The ETA is expected to be available by December 2024 at the testing stage. The ETA system is expected to be fully deployed by June 2025. In the case of Thailand, perhaps it should be recalled that the kingdom likes, to put it mildly, to adjust its plans, the mess with the opening of the country after the covid pandemic is still in memory.

So far, it is known that ETA will be mandatory for citizens of visa-free countries, i.e. for Russians as well. In order to receive the document, you will need to submit an application on the e-visa portal. An ETA will be required every time you enter Thailand. At first, the document is supposed to be issued free of charge. Travelers with an ETA will be able to use the automatic gates at immigration checkpoints via a QR code.

The Chinese Embassy in Russia exempts applicants applying for single-entry and double-entry short-term visas (up to 180 days of stay) from submitting biometrics until December 31, 2025.

But when entering South Africa, biometrics will need to be passed. The system should be operational by the end of September. The launch of the Biometric Movement Control System (BMCS) was announced back in 2017, and now it is already operating in pilot mode at two airports in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

Everything is calm in the Maldives

Russian citizens in the Maldives are not in danger – this was stated at the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka and the Republic of Maldives, commenting on publications in a number of media outlets about the coup attempt. “Currently, the embassy does not observe any signs of a coup in the Maldives in its traditional sense. Russian citizens staying in the archipelago are not in danger,” the diplomatic mission said.

The fact is that there is a financial crisis in the Maldives, and local residents have increasingly begun to use foreign currency for payments, including dollar cards to pay for studies abroad and purchase goods from abroad. In this regard, the Bank of Maldives introduced a limit on dollar transactions – a maximum of $ 100 per day, which caused widespread outrage. Calls to take to the streets and defend their rights are in full swing in local public places, and calls to organize riots and overthrow the government began to spread through bot accounts. This turned out to be enough for the President of the Maldives, Mohamed Muizzou, to accuse local bankers of an attempted coup. The police are already investigating the call for riots.
