Interfax reports that eight cars of the passenger train No. 491 Kazan — Adler derailed in the Volgograd region.
The derailment of wagons on the Gremyachaya — Kotelnikovo stage provoked an emergency braking of the train and a collision with a KAMAZ truck standing on the tracks. The truck drove to the crossing at a traffic light forbidding signal.
Up to 1,000 passengers were on the train at the time of the accident.
According to preliminary data from Russian Railways, 140 people were injured as a result of the derailment, including 33 children. Some of the wounded required hospitalization. The truck driver is in serious condition.
Information about the victims is being clarified. Operational services and recovery trains arrived at the scene. Train traffic on the section has been suspended.
