Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is one of the largest and most ancient cities in Thailand. Its history begins with the founding of the city by Prince Mengrai in 1292. This cultural and historical center is located 700 km from Bangkok, surrounded by high-altitude mountains. The surrounding area is inhabited by tribes that have preserved their ancient culture and customs in our time. The most famous tribe is the Karen, for whom female beauty depends on the length of the neck and the size of the ears.

Chiang Mai: popular areas

● The historical center of Chiang Mai is the Old City, where there are a large number of museums and monuments, as well as the best souvenir shops.

● Highlands – the area where the largest parks of the city and waterfalls are located. A wonderful find for nature lovers.

● The night Bazaar is a shopping center. It is a mini-town with a huge number of stalls with a variety of goods.

● The embankment. The most beautiful, romantic and at the same time expensive area of Chiang Mai city.

Transfer

The airport handles both domestic and regional flights. It takes about 12 hours by bus from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, and 12-15 hours by train.

Transport

Chiang Mai has a well-developed public transport system. Songteo and auto rickshaws can be seen all over the city.

Songteo is a passenger car with an open cargo platform. Depending on the route, songteos have different colors and fare.

An auto rickshaw is a motorcycle that has three wheels. This is one of the cheapest ways to travel.

There are also bicycle rickshaws in the city, which are bicycles designed to carry no more than two people and a small load.

Chiang Mai also has a developed taxi system.

Hotels

A large number of cheap housing and luxury hotels have been built in the city. It depends on the location and availability of modern services.

Shopping

● Central Airport Plaza is the largest shopping center with a large number of chain cafes, luxury boutiques with various branded clothing and a cinema.

● Mecca Night Market is a favorite place of Europeans. Here you can visit many cafes with national dishes, buy souvenirs and various decorations.
