For 3 days, from August 9 to 11, Suzdal hosts large-scale celebrations on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of this city of the Golden Ring.
Preparations for the anniversary began back in 2015, on behalf of President Vladimir Putin. Over 9 years, 7.7 billion rubles have been invested in the improvement of the historical center of Suzdal from various sources of financing. The funds were used to repair roads and sidewalks, restore building facades, arrange new lighting, create tourist areas, etc. By the 1000th anniversary, the famous gardens of the Spaso-Evfimiev Monastery of the IV century, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, were restored. As Dmitry Vakhrukov, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, who attended the celebrations today, 247.7 million rubles were allocated from the federal budget for landscaping activities within the framework of the national project “Tourism and the Hospitality Industry” (now it is called “Tourism and Hospitality. – Ed.).
Festive events in Suzdal gathered thousands of guests. Tourists can visit the fair at the main site of the State Customs Committee “Suzdal”. There is also a stage where singers and artists perform, and contests for children are held. A festival of military historical reconstruction is taking place next to the Pokrovsky Monastery, and an immersive performance-promenade “Suzdal in the Cinema” is taking place on the central Shopping Square. And at the interregional gastronomic festival “1000 flavors of Suzdal” they are going to set a record for mass tea drinking – a two-meter samovar with a volume of 300 liters was installed here, allegedly the highest in the world. Visitors will be treated to local dishes – cheeses, traditional pies, of course, it will not do without the famous Suzdal cucumbers.
Tomorrow, August 11, tourists are invited to the bell Ringing festival, as well as to a concert with the participation of leading Russian opera performers.
