The tourist tax will be introduced in In Karelia, part of the funds from it will be directed to solving environmental problems. This was announced by the head of the republic Artur Parfenchikov.
According to him, “the Sortavala district was identified as the pilot district here.”
Parfenchikov noted that the region has approved an environmental development program until 2030. The introduction of a tourist tax will be one of the measures within the framework of the program. Also, according to the project, 11 specially protected natural territories will be equipped in Karelia — the reserves “Muromsky” and “Zaozersky”, the park “Valaam Archipelago”, the coast of Lake Lososinny, etc.
