According to the NF Group consulting company, 17 food halls are operating in St. Petersburg by the beginning of summer 2024. Since January, two new projects have been opened: the Back Yard as part of an apartment hotel and the GastroPark in a shopping center in Murino. Five more spaces are planned to be launched by the end of the year, and if these projects are implemented, 2024 will be a record year for the number of new food halls. There are 413 sites in the existing projects, of which 375 are occupied. A quarter of the tenants offer pan-Asian cuisine. The volume of free supply in the composition of gastronomic spaces in St. Petersburg decreased by 6 percentage points over the year and amounted to 9%.
By the beginning of the summer of 2024, 17 food halls with a total area of 57 thousand square meters were operating in St. Petersburg. In the period from January to May, two new projects were launched: Back Yard as part of an apartment hotel and GastroPark in a shopping center in Murino. By the end of the year, it is expected to open five more spaces with an area of 10.5 thousand square meters: three food halls in the shopping center, a gastro site as part of a public space and the first small object as part of the residential complex. If all the announced projects are implemented, 2024 will be a record year for the number of new food halls.
There are 413 restaurant sites in the existing food halls of St. Petersburg, of which 375 are occupied by tenants, and 38 are vacant. The volume of free supply in the gastronomic spaces of the city decreased by 6 percentage points over the year and amounted to 9%.
A quarter of the employed corners are represented by pan-Asian cuisine (25% of all establishments), including Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese, Indian and Thai. On the second (14%)coffee shops and dessert corners are located on the site. European cuisine accounts for 11%:The largest share is occupied by Italian, along with French, Greek, Spanish, Serbian, Swedish and Balkan corners. Proper nutrition restaurants, which a year ago occupied a tenth of the total supply, significantly reduced their presence (-4 percentage points). At the same time, establishments with drinks and a Middle Eastern concept increased their share by 1.5 percentage points each.
Evgenia Khakberdieva, Regional director of the retail real estate department of NF Group: “Since May 2023, 117 corners have been opened in St. Petersburg food halls, which is almost twice the number of closures (60 closed establishments). Food halls are a global trend that is confidently conquering the market in Russia. The active development of this format in St. Petersburg is explained by the high tourist and business potential of the region, as well as the popularity of eating out.”
Among the interesting new corners, one can note the pizzeria “Flour&Water” (BackYard), the Swiss corner Lavina, where cheese melts in the fireplace on the fire (BackYard), an institution with breakfasts and sandwiches on ButterUp brioche (“Moscow Market”), the Argentine corner Fuego (Vokzal 1853), the author’s bakery Tyttö bakery (“Bottle”) and others.
