Visa rules for Russians in Thailand are changing: deadlines have been announced: as stated by Prime Minister Sretta Tavisin, Thailand announced a new visa—free regime for Russians for three months – from May 1 to July 31. The duration of the visa-free stay was reduced, but not to the previous level.
According to the latest decision, Russian tourists will be allowed to enter Thailand and stay there for 60 days without the need for a visa. This special measure will come into force for three months, from May 1 to July 31. This measure will replace the previous visa—free regime, which expires at the end of April – according to it, our tourists were allowed to enter Thailand and stay there for 90 days. It operated almost the entire winter season: from November 1 last year to April 30 this year.
By the way, according to the report of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, in the period from January 1 to April 7, Thailand was visited by more than 9.9 million foreign guests, which brought the country an income of more than 480 billion baht. At the same time, Russians were among the three largest foreign visitors: 661,000 Russian tourists arrived in Thailand during this period. The other two leading countries were China (1.8 million people) and Malaysia (1.2 million people).
At the same time, some Thai media recall that in Sri Lanka, the permission for free visas for our tourists has been extended only until April 30. Read more here. And further extension is questionable — because of “scandals and racism,” they assure. The media also recalled that Thais, especially in Phuket, had previously expressed concern about the behavior of Russian citizens, assuring them that they were taking away their jobs by illegally working and running a business.
