The Anecpla Agency has warned tourists planning holidays in Spain in the summer and autumn of 2024 about huge “super-volcanoes” with genetic mutations. Large insects are expected to invade the resorts of this European country due to high temperatures and genetic changes.
“The summer of a significant cockroach invasion is approaching,” warned Anecpla CEO Jorge Galvan. “The increase in temperature as a result of climate change causes insects such as bedbugs or cockroaches to accelerate their life cycle.”
He also noted that the heat comes in the middle of spring and lasts until late autumn, which contributes to an increase in the population of cockroaches. At the same time, experts are in no hurry to deal with them: so far they are evaluating existing pest control methods and want to give preference to physical and biological measures rather than chemical ones. “But when there is no other possible solution for adequate pest control, the use of chemicals becomes necessary,” Jorge Galvan added.
Due to the changes, the Anecpla environmental association advised tourists to keep clean, avoid water leaks, seal cracks and holes, and use garbage containers with tightly closed lids to prevent insect attacks.
What are the dangers of cockroaches?
“One of the biggest risks that cockroaches pose is the spread of harmful bacteria and viruses that can transmit important diseases to humans,” said the CEO of Anecpla. And according to the Spanish publication La Razon, this year the country’s authorities reported a significant increase in the number of cases of cockroach plague, which is 33% more than in 2023. Tourists traveling to this country should take into account sanitary risks and be vigilant.
