Due to repeated refusals by Turkish Airlines to board tourists from Russia on flights traveling through Turkey to Latin American countries, the Russian Embassy in Turkey sent a note to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Eona is being carefully studied by the Turkish side, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a press briefing.
According to Zakharova, quoted by RIA Novosti, the Russian Consulate General in Istanbul reported that Turkish Airlines’ refusals to board Russians on flights from Istanbul to Latin American countries are primarily related “to the rules of entry into their territory introduced by these countries,” and in this regard, the air carrier, when organizing flights, “is guided by the rules of ICAO and the rules of the country of destination.”
“The issue is being raised with particular emphasis by the Turkish side, including the meeting of the Russian-Turkish subgroup on safety and protection of the rights of tourists, held on April 19… The note sent by the Embassy to the Turkish Foreign Ministry on this issue is still under consideration by the Turkish side,” Zakharova said at a briefing.
Earlier, Turprom wrote that this Turkish airline stopped selling tickets to Russians and began canceling previously sold ones. Read more at this link.
