Soon, an incredible railway network may be created on the Moon to transport goods and people across the surface of the Earth’s satellite. The railway system being developed, supported by the US Department of Defense, will be able to transport both people and goods, the Sun reports.
“The proposed lunar railway network could transport people, supplies and resources for commercial enterprises across the surface of the Moon, contributing to the space economy of the United States and international partners,” said a representative of the aerospace company Northrop Grumman, which was entrusted with this development.
Northrop Grumman was one of 14 companies selected by the United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in December to participate in the Luna 10 study, which aims to quickly create new technological ideas that will help the United States expand its economic presence in near space. It is believed that this happened after the United States claimed the south pole of the Moon last month, when they successfully landed their spaceship, dubbed Odysseus.
At the same time, both the United States and China consider the mysterious south pole of the Moon to be the most suitable place for a permanent lunar base.
