The museum ecological center “House of Nature” was opened in the Vologda region in the city of Cherepovets. Before that, there was a small Museum of local Nature named after A. I. Herzen in the city. Now it has moved to a new spacious building and received a new name. The uniqueness of this collection lies in the huge natural science collection, which took more than a century to create.
In the main exhibition “The City and the River”, visitors can see 7 large dioramas with ecosystems of the local region. Fifty different fish from local northern rivers and lakes, including a rare species – sterlet, have settled in 9 panoramic pools, the total length of which reaches 14 meters. Trout, pike, burbot, crucian carp, carp, ruffs and asps are also found among the inhabitants of aquariums – most of them are almost impossible to find in artificial reservoirs. The museum staff plans to put carp, walleye, ide and other fish in the reservoirs in the near future. All the necessary conditions have been created for the living exhibits, such as low ambient temperature, high-quality water filtration, lighting with a special “night food for predators” mode. The animals are cared for by an aquaculture specialist.
The museum is located at 42 Kommunistov Street, Cherepovets. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday.
