The government has allocated another 200 billion rubles for IT mortgages – this should be enough for 15 thousand loans

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a government decree according to which the limits on subsidizing IT mortgages are increased by 200 billion rubles. The previous 500 billion rubles have already been spent since 2022, when the program was launched, and therefore banks had to stop issuing new loans.

As Mishustin stated at a government meeting, during the duration of the program, about 56 thousand loans were issued under a preferential program for employees of IT companies totaling about 500 billion rubles. Now about 15 thousand more people will be able to take out a mortgage at a preferential rate of up to 5%.

Due to the increase in limits, banks plan to resume issuing IT mortgages, in particular, VTB announced its readiness to do so on April 8.

“In two years, 11 thousand IT specialists have issued a mortgage for 110 billion rubles, by the way, the average check for it is higher than for other state programs,” commented Sergey Babin, head of the VTB Mortgage Lending department. “We felt the rush in March, when the limits of other banks ran out, so we made every effort to process all applications and resume disbursements as quickly as possible — immediately after the government’s decision to allocate additional funding.”

The preferential mortgage program for the IT sector was launched in 2022. Specialists aged 18-50 years old working in companies accredited by the Ministry of Finance can take out a loan, while salary restrictions are set for borrowers from 36 to 50 years old: in million-plus cities, the monthly income should be at least 120 thousand rubles, in the rest — 70 thousand, in Moscow — 150 thousand rubles. The maximum amount of subsidized credit in the regions with millions of people is 18 million rubles, in the rest — 9 million rubles.
