Sri Lankan authorities have extended the issuance of free visas until April 30, 2024, Interfax reports. The relevant information finally appeared today in the ETA electronic visa processing system.
Recall that from November 2023 to March 31, 2024, Sri Lankan visas were free for citizens of several countries, including Russia. Until the very end of March, the government did not give any explanations in advance about the introduction of payment or the extension of free issuance. On March 31, at the end of the day, the country’s Minister of Tourism, Harin Fernando, announced that the free visa regime for seven countries would be extended until April 30, however, this information was not reflected in the entry permit systems, and foreign travelers were misled: for example, Intourist tourists who entered the island on April 1 and 2 paid for visas, since the airport services did not have accurate information that the fee should not be charged.
In the next few weeks, the country’s leadership promises to announce whether the pilot program for the restoration of the Sri Lankan tourism industry, under which visas were issued for free, will be extended, or you will have to pay $ 50-60 for registration again.
