The leadership among foreign buyers of Turkish apartments and houses is maintained by Russian citizens for the 29th month in a row
In August 2024, Russians again became the first in the ranking of foreign home buyers in Turkey, having purchased 381 objects (apartments and houses) in this country. This is evidenced by the data of the report of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The Russians have been holding the leadership for 29 months in a row, since April 2022.
In second place in terms of the number of transactions in August were Iranian citizens who bought 171 residential properties in Turkey. Ukrainians were in the third position with an indicator of 161 objects. The top five of the rating also included citizens of Germany (139 sites) and Iraq (136 sites), according to the report.
In total, in August, according to TurkStat, foreigners purchased 2,257 apartments and houses in Turkey. This is 26.2% less than in August 2023 (3,058).
The share of sales to foreigners in the total volume of housing transactions amounted to 1.7%. The largest number of lots were sold to foreigners in Istanbul — 838. Antalya took the second place (696 objects), and Mersin took the third position (174).
Market experts attribute the decrease in interest in Turkish real estate from foreign buyers to the inflation of the Turkish lira, as well as an increase in the entry threshold for obtaining a residence permit from $ 70 thousand to $ 200 thousand and new rules for renting short-term housing.
