The summer river navigation season in Moscow will begin on April 24, 2024, Interfax reports, citing Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
According to the mayor, last year the river transport of the capital set a record for the number of passengers: 2.2 million trips were made on cruise ships and pleasure craft, which is 22 percent more than in 2022. River transportation is expected to enjoy the same popularity this year.
The Northern and Southern River stations have already been prepared for the opening of the season: the infrastructure of the berths has been updated, engineering communications have been checked, and the embankments have been put in order. It should be recalled that the recently renovated railway stations have ceased to be just transport hubs and turned into cultural centers: numerous free entertainment and educational events, master classes, sports festivals, and festivals are held on their territory.
Regular river traffic will also develop in the near future. So, at the moment there are two year–round river electric transport routes in Moscow: Kievsky – the Heart of the Capital and ZIL – Printers. By 2030, it is planned to launch five more routes, thanks to which passengers will be able to move throughout the entire water area of the Moskva River within the city limits.
