In Cuba, all establishments will be forced to accept Russian Mir plastic cards, the island’s tourism minister Juan Carlos Garcia Granda said in an interview with TASS. The Government of this country will make the ability to work with such cards a prerequisite for the activities of all companies.
According to the official, all POS terminals in Cuba, without exception, will be reprogrammed and will soon “learn how to communicate” with Russian plastic. Cuba also allowed the possibility of issuing Mir cards by local banks and opening branches of Russian banks on the territory of this state.
Recall that now some establishments in Cuba have already started accepting payments using Mir cards, but mostly we are talking about the most popular tourist places. In total, there are about 20,000 points in the country where terminals are able to work with Russian cards. The minister said that in the few months since the start of active use of the new payment system for the island, transactions totaling about $ 2.7 million were carried out with its help.
