Since Montenegro is not a member of the European Union and the Schengen Agreement, most foreigners have the right to enter this Balkan country without a visa. Different periods of stay are set for citizens of different countries, Russians can legally stay in Montenegro without a visa for up to 30 days.
After 30 days of residence in Montenegro, Russian citizens have two ways to stay in the country longer. The first one is familiar to everyone — to issue a residence permit. The second one is Visa run.
Visa Run is a legal method to extend the period of stay in Montenegro and renew the tourist visa—free period by crossing the border of another state.
If you want to live in Montenegro without obtaining a residence permit, then you will be there as a tourist, and after crossing the border, during the first day you should pay the boravish tax — the tax for accommodation. This is done at the Tourist Information Center (Turistički informativni centar).
The cost of the fee is 1 euro per day, for children under 12 years old and disabled — free of charge, for teenagers from 12 to 18 years old — 50%.
The visa transfer is made upon the expiration of your visa-free period. Then, once every 30 days, you will have to spend a day on a visa, it is most convenient to travel to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, and do not forget to pay 30 euros.
You can get to other countries, but it is more expensive. For example, by train to Serbia or before Albania (if you have an open Schengen or national visa). Next, you need to stand in line at the travel agency, register, pay the fee and that’s it — you are legally in Montenegro again.
