Russian tourist Viktor Solovyov, who came there for the New Year holidays with his wife Alina, was abducted and brutally murdered in Georgia. The body of a Tula businessman was found in the Nakra River.

On January 5, 2025, armed men attacked a married couple driving along the road connecting the Mestia ski resort with the city of Zugdidi. Bandits stole mobile phones from Russians. The man was taken away in an unknown direction, and the woman was released.

The measures to capture the criminals were carried out for two days, and a helicopter was involved in them. In hot pursuit, law enforcement officers managed to detain two alleged criminals — a 38-year-old and a 32-year-old local resident. They are charged with murder, attempted murder, gang robbery and illegal possession of weapons. All with aggravating circumstances. The alleged killers face up to 20 years in prison or life in prison.

The attackers left the girl on the road

According to the surviving Russian woman, the attackers behaved strangely and followed the couple. When the tourists stopped on the road to take some pictures, the bandits pulled over and offered their help. Later, they blocked the way for the couple, got out of the car and first asked for a pump, and then attacked Victor.

Alina heard several shots, after which one of the unknown men got into her car and drove away. The girl was threatened with a gun, and then they decided to leave her on the road. The Russian woman reached the embassy and took refuge there. She called the police and asked for help from the Russian Representative Office in Georgia.

Georgian law enforcement officers found the suspects’ car with traces of blood. Police later detained the alleged attackers. They confessed that they shot the businessman and threw his body into the water to hide the traces of the crime.
