Germany will resume passport control at its external borders from September 16. This was announced by the Minister of the Interior of Germany Nancy Feather. Additional control measures will be introduced for six months. They are caused by the Department’s concern about illegal migrants. The changes, according to the authorities, are also necessary to protect the country from the threats posed by terrorism and cross-border crime.
Such enhanced control at the external borders has already been observed this year – in the summer it was introduced for the duration of the European Football Championship. Even then it became clear that the border guards from Germany adhere to strict measures that a tourist would hardly have met in other countries. For example, during the days of Euro 2024, a fan from Russia who came to the competition was canceled Schengen only because it was a one-time ticket and was issued at the Spanish consulate.
