A tourist from Uganda was arrested in Zimbabwe for possession of a sex toy. He spent 24 days in a prison cell awaiting trial. Last week, a judge found him not guilty of the charges, nevertheless, the immigration service demanded deportation from the country.
As reported by The East African, it all started back in early August. Police officers detained 24-year-old Tom Ssekamva and his friend from the Czech Republic near a hotel in the city of Masvingo, which is almost 300 km from the capital Harare. At that time, activists protesting against the event were being rounded up there. The Czech tourist, having figured out who was who, was soon released. But his friend was accused of violating the law for finding a rubber dildo in a bag.
The magistrate did not agree with the prosecutor’s demands and ruled that the possession of a sex toy did not harm society in any way and the tourist had no intention of showing it in public.
Despite the acquittal verdict, the young man was left in custody at the immigration department. According to the lawyer, it is necessary to purchase an air ticket for deportation, but the tourist cannot do this. The reason is simple – the phone is still in the police, and without it, the detainee cannot access either money or booking sites.
Earlier, TurDom wrote that the Cuban migration service did not allow the entry of a rowdy Russian. The airline was ordered to deport the man to his homeland. A security officer was assigned to accompany him on the return flight. The court recovered the expenses incurred by the air carrier from the tourist.
