Foreign tourists who violate traffic rules in Bali are now facing deportation. The provincial authorities have declared “zero tolerance” for guests who do not comply with local laws, according to Indonesian media.
The reason for the tougher punishment was the sharp increase in the number of “undisciplined” travelers in recent weeks. Most of them just cause problems on the roads. The likely deportation is expected to become a deterrent for tourists who rent bikes or cars and are frivolous about the order in Bali. According to statistics, the province is in second place in Indonesia in terms of the number of road accidents, second only to East Kalimantan.
“Immigration proceedings will be initiated against foreigners who have received a fine indicating a violation of the laws and regulations of the country,” explained Safar Muhammad Yam, Director of the Immigration Supervision and Law Enforcement Department. He also added that the visa holder, that is, the tourist, is obliged to comply with the conditions for its issuance, including Indonesian laws and customs. Otherwise, the visa may be revoked and the guest deported.
It is noted that in each specific case, the decision is made individually. Some violators may receive a warning first, while others will be subject to the most severe sanctions. It all depends on the severity of the offense committed, the scale of the incident and its consequences.
