Spring is the most beautiful and greenest time in Cyprus
Only at this time can you see the island in flowers: fields of wild poppies and tulips, orchids, jasmine, citruses and almonds. Spring is a very comfortable time for outdoor activities and trips with children. It is still cool to swim until mid-May, the water temperature in March and April is 17-19 degrees. However, the air warms up to 20-25 degrees. The perfect time to travel around the island.
On land and at sea: is it comfortable in Cyprus in the spring?
On the sea
In spring, the sea temperature in Cyprus as a whole is not high enough yet. Most tourists can swim comfortably only starting from the end of April. However, among the locals and tourists coming to Cyprus, there are many who have been using the sea since March. I myself will be very happy to swim on sunny days in March and April. By the way, I recommend buying a short neoprene wetsuit. It will make bathing in cool water as comfortable as possible.
On land
This year our winter was moderately snowy. Of course, I mean snow only in the Troodos mountains. In the years when winter pleases with the abundance of snow in the Troodos mountains, even in March you can usually go skiing, and then go down to the sea and bask in the sun! But this year, spring, I believe, will not provide such opportunities. Ski trails are unlikely to work in the spring.
But there will be many other opportunities in the spring. Starting in mid-March, almost all nature trails will be available. This is the best time in Cyprus to go hiking, since the air temperature is optimal for this. March, April, and May are suitable for this. And in general, it is ideal to spend all active holidays in the spring, Cyprus is very beautiful at this time. Rent a car, travel, walk. All excursion programs at this time will be colorful and atmospheric, there will be a lot of water in mountain rivers and waterfalls after winter, and the forests will be filled with fresh greenery. I especially recommend the following:
Aphrodite, Curio and Commandaria

7 Wonders of Ayia Napa
You will have time to catch another famous “winter” attraction in early spring — pink flamingos wintering on the salt lakes of Larnaca will stay here until the heat. And if you are in Cyprus in early April, be sure to go to some village in the Troodos plateau, where almond orchards grow. Almond blossom is an amazing sight! You can do this on excursions to Cyprus: Lefkara, Kato Dris and Vavla.
Hiking and walking in Cyprus in spring
Spring is the perfect time to travel around the island. Many interesting places become inaccessible in summer due to the intense heat (for example, archaeological open-air parks, Nicosia). But in the spring, until the middle of May, it is a pleasure to travel to these places. In addition, there are much fewer tourists in Cyprus in the spring than in the high season (summer).
Natural routes in the mountains are completely free of snow, and the season of various activities begins. For example, we regularly go on day hikes. The weather is also great for Nordic walking marches, hiking, etc.
What kind of entertainment is available in the spring?
In March, donkey farms and a camel farm are already functioning (these are kind of amusement parks). For entertainment of this kind, we have compiled a special excursion program. Also, regular extreme quad safaris in the protected areas of the Troodos mountain system begin in March.
In April, depending on the weather, water parks in tourist cities may open. Tourist navigation usually opens in early April. This means that very popular boat trips in Cyprus are starting to take place regularly (in Protaras, Ayia Napa, Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos). Diving programs may also start in April, but this mainly depends on the tourist flow.
In May, the summer season unofficially opens, of course — the air warms up to 28 degrees, the water to 22-23 degrees! All seasonal attractions, fountain shows in Protaras, restaurants and clubs closed for the winter, coastal cafes and souvenir shops are starting to work. Summer literally begins in Cyprus on May 1!
Spring events in Cyprus
Interesting sports and festive events take place in spring: Limassol Marathon — one of the largest European marathons; parades and festivities for the Independence Day of Greece (March 25) and the Day of the beginning of the National Liberation War in Cyprus (April 1); Lazarev Saturday, the memorial day of one of the most beloved Cypriot saints and patron saint of Larnaca; Easter, to which the whole island is decorated; Anthesteria — day of flowers and flower carnivals (May 6).
Seasonal fruits and vegetables
Guava
What is worth paying special attention to is the fruit, exotic for many countries, but common for Cyprus. Guava — it is a fruit originating from a shrub or small tree known as the “guava tree” (Psidium guajava). Guava has a round or oval shape and can be green, yellow or pink in color, depending on the variety and degree of ripeness. The guava fruit has juicy meat with many small seeds located inside. Its taste can vary from sweet to sour, depending on the variety and degree of ripeness. Guava is rich in vitamin C and also contains other beneficial nutrients such as dietary fiber, vitamins A and B, antioxidants and minerals. Guavas are often consumed fresh, and are also used to make juices, jams, compotes, marmalades and other culinary dishes.
Strawberry
In Cyprus, strawberries usually begin to ripen in spring, from about March to May, depending on the variety and growing conditions. At this time, the climate in Cyprus becomes warmer and sunnier, which contributes to a good ripening of strawberries. Strawberries grown in Cyprus usually have a juicy taste and aroma due to favorable climatic conditions.
Citrus fruits
Citrus fruits in Cyprus usually ripen in autumn and winter, starting around October and continuing until March-April. At this time of the year, a cooler period begins in Cyprus, which contributes to the good ripening of oranges, tangerines, lemons and other citrus fruits. Cyprus is famous for its high-quality citrus fruits, thanks to the favorable Mediterranean climate and fertile soil.
