In Spain, they are trying to sell the village of Salto de Castro again

В Испании снова пытаются продать деревню Сальто-де-Кастро

A picturesque but abandoned village in northwestern Spain, Salto de Castro, has been put up for auction again. Last year, it was already purchased by a local businessman for $275,000, which is cheaper than the average cost of an apartment in Barcelona. Now a village in Spain is being sold for twice the previous price — at a price of 580,000 euros.

The history of the village and previous attempts at development

Salto de Castro was built in the 1940s by the Iberdrola electric power company as housing for workers involved in the construction of a nearby dam. But by the 1980s, people were leaving en masse to find work in major cities. Since 1989, the village has been completely abandoned.

In 2000, the village was sold to an investor in order to turn it into a tourist destination, but the plans did not come true — the global financial crisis of 2008 stopped the project, and in 2022 the village was back on the market.

It was purchased by a Spanish businessman for 275,000 euros, but something did not work out again.

What does the Spanish village look like now?

The village of Salto de Castro is an abandoned settlement that consists of 44 houses, one hostel, a bar, a swimming pool and a sports area. Plus, if desired, a church, a pharmacy and a police station can be located here.

The village is located in the stunning natural environment of the UNESCO Meseta Iberica Biosphere Reserve, home to protected species such as Bonelli’s eagle and the Iberian wolf. Located near the Portuguese border, Salto de Castro also offers magnificent views of the Duoro River.

This place has great potential for the development of ecological, cultural and gastronomic tourism. By purchasing this village in Spain, the new owners can create a base for hiking, cycling routes, workshops on traditional cuisine and crafts.

It is worth noting that the future investor needs to take into account the costs of restoring the village. When the property was sold last year, real estate agents estimated that restoration work to make it an attractive destination for tourists would cost about 2.1 million euros.

Not for one euro, but very cheap. In Spain, a village consisting of three houses is for sale

Interested buyers should hurry up, as there are already potential buyers, and if bidding occurs, the price may exceed 600,000 euros.
